The Magic AI Moment
We are chasing the next “WTF” moment instead of using AI efficiently
Hey there,
You know what’s crazy? ChatGPT launched on November 30, 2022. That’s almost 4 years ago… feeling old now? For me, it feels like it was yesterday… which is probably caused by all the tools we get, all the news we see, and the fact that this topic is omnipresent… but one thing can’t be recreated, and ChatGPT had it first.
Remember the first time you landed on the site? This minimalistic chat window was waiting to be filled out. Once you typed something in, hit send — BOOM — there it was: this magic moment where we all thought “What the hell? Did I really create this with one simple sentence?”
Since then, a lot has happened. Building tools, coding, workflows, automations… all by simply prompting. And now all these tools are trying to recreate this moment, fighting against our limited attention spans.
But this isn’t working anymore.
I already wrote about it here. Back then, we had the AHA moment, where a user perceived the value of a tool for the first time. Now we have the magic moment, where the value has shifted more toward “Do I really don’t have to do this work at all?”. But what sticks around after 4 years? It’s not the feeling of “What the hell, that’s amazing” but more the feeling of “Why can’t AI do that?” causing frustration when AI doesn’t do things the way we want.
We’ve been overpromised to by marketing, become numb to value propositions, and can’t wait until AI really takes all tasks away from us… which kind of removes the joy from all of this.
AI should be treated for what it is: a helper, not a wonder pill we’re trying to force into solving everything for us. We keep chasing the next “WTF” moment, but only once we stop doing that can we use AI in a way that truly helps us.
